Isabelle was pissed at him. So was Noah. Both mattered, but only one wore on his mood. He was feeling foul by the time they rolled up in front of the place Isabelle had booked them into. Le Petit Madeleine.
The outside was nondescript, hardly inspiring a man with his bank account to return for its kerb appeal. But she had insisted the hotel was rated four and a half stars. Well worthy of his overblown ego and swelled head. According to Isabelle anyway.
He glanced down at his jeans and T-shirt. Maybe, since everyone wanted to put him in that box, he should start to play the part. He turned his attention to Noah. Either there was a spot on the window of the limo or Noah couldn’t look at him. Whichever it was, it was pissing Noah off. His green eyes were stormy in their reflection.
“You going to go check us in?” That got Noah’s attention. His head snapped around, his mouth open to retort, but Shannon found he had a cruel streak of his own. “You are the assistant, right? To a man with a very fat bank account?”
Noah blanched, his eyes falling closed. He took a deep breath but never quite managed to wipe the hurt from his face. And just that fast Shannon caved, feeling like a complete jerk. He knew the reason behind Noah’s actions, behind his words. Isabelle had filled his ear with exactly the reason why he should never, ever have tried to push Noah into a casino, regardless of the city they were visiting. “I’m sorry. That was incredibly rude. I’ve never treated anyone that way, and you are the last person I want to be the first.”
Colour returned to Noah’s cheeks and he settled his gaze on Shannon. “Truce?”
Shannon nodded, then slid out of the car when the driver opened the door, holding out a hand for Noah. “No more fighting today.”
When his lover emerged, a sly grin tipped up one corner of his mouth. “Is this our first fight, honey?”
Unable to resist, Shannon pressed a kiss to the quirk of skin. “The first of many, I’m sure. You’ll keep me in line, I’m positive.”
Noah twisted to take a proper kiss, pulling away at the subtle cough by the driver. “Let’s go check out our room. Maybe do a little making up.”
Shannon’s cock hardened. He tipped the driver, thanked him, then followed Noah into the hotel. The lobby was beautiful, he was sure, but it paled in comparison to the awareness shining in Noah’s eyes. A bellhop took their bags and led them through the corridors to their door. A tip and a relinquished key later, Shannon stood facing Noah in a stark white room.
Noah was focused just over his shoulder, his lips parted with a gasp. “Gorgeous.”
Well, he wasn’t talking about Shannon, so he turned to face the room behind him. On the wall over the bed hung an oversized, black-and-white painting of an androgynous face, cradled by a lover’s hands.
